Oh, hi there!
Welcome to my online sphere – a place for positivity, motivation and growth, dedicated to anyone who feels unworthy and at the verge of giving up on life. I am a migrant mum of 3 amazing kids and wife, presently living in Europe. I love God, the father who sits on the Throne and Jesus Christ, the only begotten son of God, who is my lord and saviour. I also love fashion, good food, books, writing and I find a deep sense of fulfilment in motivating and uplifting others. I live by the values of love, honesty, integrity, dependability, kindness, trustworthiness, empathy, respect and loyalty.
As a child, books were my safe escape and as I grew older, I developed even more interest in literature and writing. I eventually went to journalism school, graduated with a BSC in Journalism and mass communication and worked as a print journalist for many years before eventually migrating to the diaspora for further studies and a search for greener pastures. The dream I had back home, about the western world ended up being very much different from the harsh realities I faced as a migrant.
Being a migrant ignited a lot of curiosity in me and my quest to have a deeper understanding of the human society and human beings in general led me to study and eventually obtain two Masters degrees, one in social and cultural anthropology and a second one in culture and Development Studies. Although I did not get a job directly related to my post-graduate studies, it provided me with a much needed insight into the human society on a broader spectrum and helped me to truly understand and assimilate into the different societies and cultures that I had to live in.
Being a migrant is quite challenging, especially if you are a person of colour or if you are female. I have had my fair share of what society throws at you when you look, think or act differently. The decision to start this blog was made at a time filled with a lot of challenges as a mom, wife and migrant. Without even realising it, I had let self-doubt, self-loathing, self-sabotage, and all sort of self-defeating beliefs overwhelm me, all due to the psychological and mental tortures that I faced as a migrant of colour. One of my biggest challenges was finding my long lost confidence and self-esteem again.
The turning point was the arrival of COVID-19 and the lock-down which gave me a great opportunity to reconnect with my past and reflect on what my purpose truly is, and came to the realisation that my purpose far exceeded me. In the midst of my silent pain and darkness, I leaned fully on God and for the first time in a long time, I truly began to understand the meaning of God's unconditional love for His children. God is ever present, even in pain and He cannot give you what you cannot handle as long as you trust and believe in Him. God gave me several reasons why I needed to stay alive and strong – my beautiful kids, my family and all those countless people that I don’t even know, who for some reason, depend on me for mental, financial or physical support. I eventually began a journey to finding my path to happiness again. God has been very faithful and one of the things that has kept me going everyday is the ability to have a positive mindset, seeing the positives out of a negative situation, and learning to be grateful every single day that I am alive.
I consider this blog not only as a safe escape from my thoughts, but also as a form of therapy to myself Most especially, I see it as an opportunity to provide any sort of virtual support or assistance to anyone who may be going through similar life challenges and is having difficulties handling them. On this blog, you will find simple tips on self-development, mindful living, spirituality and lifestyle, for a healthier and happier life abroad. I also share some snippets of my journey to rediscovering myself and my path to finding true happiness.
So, welcome to my happy space, an online tearoom, where we can meet and release the stress of the day or week, with no judgement or hatred. Together, let’s support each other to become stronger and unstoppable and, make the world a better place one kind act at a time. I believe that if we were all just a little kinder, more authentic and honest, and if we focused more on what unites us rather than what divides us, then the world will be a much better place where we can thrive in grace, live our purpose, and raise our children to be strong, confident and responsible ladies and gentlemen.
Much Love, Imma
